Ian's First Blog Entry!

SUMMER 2009 RE-CAP
Hello! When I heard that my mom was having trouble keeping up with the blog I decided to take matters into my own hands and learn to type. So...here I am! This summer has been super busy and fun, so I guess I understand why mom had a hard time sitting down to write about it all. Here is a quick re-cap:

In June I met Devona, my Amma's (Grandma in Icelandic) best friend. They went to college together, and my mom and her daughter Leah have been best friends forever. She is a fun lady- I love her :) Leah and McKenna also made a surprise trip for a family friend's wedding so we got to see them for a little bit too. Over the Fourth of July we went to Nana and Poppa' s cottage in WI. It was a LOT of fun- excep t for the boatride. I didn't like that silly lifejacket. AT ALL.While we were there I got my first birthday present- a bubble mower! Good thing I was there to help mow, the lawn up there is huge!

The weekend after that Uncle Eric and Jeanette came to visit! They brought their doggie, Kingsford, who is awesome! Dad gets pretty silly when the uncles are around.....Here is a picture of them at some Basilica Block Party-it was a concert and they got to see the Counting Crows. I had a fun time hanging with Auntie Robin and Bill.
The next weekend was a big one........I turned ONE!! Grandma and Grandpa came to see me and celebrate with me, and lots of family and friends came over for tacos and cake. It was delish! I also got lots of great presents. And Grandma and Grandpa took me to the park-one of my favorite things to do!

The next weekend we went to Grandma and Grandpa's for a wedding shower for Mommy and Daddy. I did something really cute w/ a bow on my head, but I can't find a picture of that. All I know is I made everyone laugh.....I liked that. Maybe I have a future in performing?

After that trip we had a little down time at home....Cheeto and I had fun "playing".

And we went to my first Twin's game! They were playing.....the White Sox? I dont know, I was too busy climbing the stairs and all over the seats. I really like when everyone clapped and cheered....
In August Mommy and I went up to Brainerd, MN to hang out with some family and hit the beach at Kavannaughs. It was a lot of fun, even though I wasn't feeling too good. My awesome cousins gave me a mohawk one night. I felt like a pretty cool dude.

Grandma and Nana came to visit also in August- we had a lot of fun and it was great to spend a little more time getting to know Nana. Then Mommy and Daddy went to a couple of weddings and I got to hang out with my awesome cousin Sammi and "Auntie" Wendy.

Other highlights of the summer:

Cheeto- I love him. He is soft. Sometimes I tackle him to give him a hug and he meows real loud.

Popsicles at daycare like the big kids.

Talking.I've really started to say words, like mama, dada (dadada....sometimes I just keep going with that one), cracker, nigh-nigh, shoes, and dat (which means cat, of course).

The P-A-R-K. We go to the park a lot and I climb up on everything and go down the slides with Mommy.

Speaking of climbing....I climbed out of my crib a few days ago, all by myself! Mommy was quite surprised when she came in my room that morning!

It was an awesome summer!

There is this big wedding thing in 2.5 weeks.....I'm sure that will be a lot of fun too :)

Love- Ian

9 Months

So.....the whole being better at blogging thing......I didn't do so hot with that, huh? Here are some cute pictures to make up for that :)

Love those plaid pants!

One of his favorite games is when Daddy chases him around the ottoman...
it's quite funny apparently.

Tuxedo onesie and camo pants....guess who dressed him in that?

Swinging at the park.....I think spring may be here. PLEASE STAY!!!

Not diggin the avocado here....just pass the Cheerios.

We had his 9 month check up yesterday (5 days shy of his actual 9 month b-day but who's counting?). He is growing and doing all the right things. Weighing in at 20 pounds 10 ounces and measuring 28 3/4 inches, he is right around the 50th percentile for both. He now has 8 teeth- 4 top, 4 bottom.

Some favorites:

  • Standing- he has been letting go of whatever he pulls himself up on and just hanging out on his own for a few seconds here and there.
  • Babbling- we've heard some Dada and Mama but nothing directed at either of us yet. Exciting though!
  • Cheerios- he'll eat some carrots, green beans, broccoli, pears, etc, but he is mostly all about the Cheerios. I have learned not to put them on his tray first.....
  • Peek-a-boo- loves this! Even better if he is on one side of a door and I am on the other.....he loves opening and shutting the door and giggling while I say "Where did Ian go??".

He has also starting getting a little separation anxiety, which makes leaving him even harder than before, but I think he is doing ok. Luckily he is still easily distracted.

Last weekend (Easter) was awesome- we stayed in MN due to a wedding :) in my family and some cousins in from Switzerland. Ian got to meet lots of people. Overall it was a busy yet still relaxing weekend. Having Good Friday off and getting my massage (a Christmas gift from Adam) helped with the relaxing part. Next weekend we are heading back to WI to see Adam's side and spend some quality time w/ Grandma and Grandpa.

The wedding is coming along- most of the big stuff is booked and we are in a sort of waiting period-limbo before we can do much more. We still have cake tasting(yum!) and I have to make the final decision on the bridesmaid dresses, but otherwise all is quiet on the wedding front.

Hopefully I will be better about posting from now on..if not, see you again in 6 weeks ;)

Pulling Up

Ian has started pulling himself up on just about anything he can...the ottoman, the couch, the chairs, the cat (that one does NOT work out well), his musical table toy, the bookshelf, etc. It is so fun to watch his face light up when he pulls himself up and sees the world from a new perspective. He is pretty proud of himself :) And while I am excited and proud of his new accomplishment too, it also means he is getting older and more independent and it feels too soon. But I know it's a good thing and I will need to get used to it....but still! When did he go from this:

To this:

(no worries about the little tumble at the end...he picked himself right up and went on to pull himself up on the chair ;)

Happy Thursday!

I just love this picture of Ian. I took it last Sunday while we were just hanging out, me chasing him as he scooted around the house. He decided to take a break and lay back on the hard floor (I swear we do have a rug, but he seems to prefer the hardwoods) and gnaw on his ball.
